Essential7 minChecked on 10/30/2026

What you will have: Your customer receives the payment request on their phone, confirms it, and the order switches to paid by itself.

You collect an order remotely, without waiting for the customer in the shop or checking a transfer by hand.

Why it matters

An order taken by phone or on WhatsApp is not yet a sale: you still need to be paid. Asking the customer to send a transfer, then checking that it arrived, takes time and leaves room for mistakes. With Genuka Pay, you send the request from the order; the customer confirms on their phone and the payment records itself on the order.

Summary

On an order, Initiate a payment sends a Mobile Money payment request to the customer's number. The customer confirms it on their phone, with no link to open. When Genuka Pay confirms the payment, Genuka records it on the order, in a Genuka Pay treasury account, and the order updates automatically.

Prerequisites

  • Genuka Pay activated: Settings › Company › Payment Methods, Genuka Pay card ("Recommended in Cameroon"), Activate Genuka Pay button. Activation takes three steps without leaving Genuka: Your business, Your identity (ID document and selfie), Payout account (where to receive your money). You need the payment_methods.* right to activate it. If you already have a Genuka Pay account, Link my Genuka Pay account links it without recreating anything.
  • An order (not a quote) that is not fully paid.
  • The phone number of the customer who will pay.

Steps

  1. Open the order (Menu › Sales › Orders, then the order).
  2. Order actions menu: Initiate a payment.
  3. Check the Customer phone number (prefilled from the customer record, editable) and the Amount to collect (prefilled with the balance due, "out of … due"). You can request less than the balance due: it is a partial payment.
  4. Click Initiate payment. The window switches to Waiting for payment: "The payment request was sent to …".
  5. The customer confirms on their phone. You can keep the window open or close it: "the order will be updated automatically". When the money arrives, the window shows Payment received.

On the order, a Payment block marked Genuka Pay then shows the amount, the status (Awaiting payment, Partially paid, Paid), the operator, the masked number, the history (Payment requested, then Payment confirmed · credited to your balance) and the Reference, with See in Payments.

Test mode and real payments

As long as your identity is not verified, Genuka Pay is in Test mode: "real payments open once your identity is verified". The Genuka Pay card shows where the verification stands (Identity verification in progress, Your verification needs another look, Your Genuka Pay account is suspended) and the Resume verification button.

Where the money goes

  • The money arrives on your Genuka Pay balance. In Genuka, each payment is recorded in a Genuka Pay treasury account, created automatically at the first payment.
  • To get the money onto your Mobile Money: Menu › Finance › Payments, Genuka Pay tab, Withdraw money button. The tab also shows your transactions and your payouts.
  • A Genuka Pay withdrawal is not carried over automatically into your Genuka treasury accounts: record a transfer from the Genuka Pay account to the account that receives the money (see "Transfers between treasury accounts").

Edge cases and common mistakes

  • "Initiate a payment" does not appear. Genuka Pay is not activated, or the page open is a quote. First convert the quote into an order.
  • The customer does not confirm. As long as a request is waiting on their phone, Genuka refuses to send a second one for the same order (message "A payment request is already waiting on the payer's phone.", in English): this prevents the customer from being charged twice. Wait for the request to expire or be declined, then try again.
  • Order without a customer. The number entered is attached to the order: Genuka finds the customer who has this number, or creates a customer whose name is the number. Rename them afterwards from their page.
  • New number. A number the customer did not have yet is added to their record.
  • Partial payment. A payment lower than the balance due creates a deposit invoice, like a payment entered by hand (see "Record a payment on an order").
  • No double recording. If the confirmation arrives twice, the payment is recorded only once.
  • Register session. A Genuka Pay payment is not a cash payment: it does not need an open register session.

FAQ

Does the customer receive a payment link? Usually no: they receive a request to confirm directly on their phone. Only some operators, which go through their own payment page, send the customer to that page.

Can I request a deposit with Genuka Pay? Yes: enter an Amount to collect lower than the balance due. A new request can collect the rest.

How much does Genuka Pay cost? Fees are deducted by Genuka Pay; the Payment block of the order can show the Genuka Pay fees and what You receive.
