Create a product and publish it (draft or published)

What you will have: Your first product is saved, published and linked to the right shops.

A product entered once sells at the register, on the website and on WhatsApp, at the same price everywhere.

Why it matters

As long as an item does not exist in Genuka, it cannot be sold at the register, offered online or tracked in stock. Creating the product once, with its price and its shops, saves you from retyping the item at every sale and from having two salespeople quote two different prices.

Summary

A Genuka product has a Published or Draft status. A published product is offered to customers (website, public links, register); a draft stays in your catalog but is not offered for self-service sale. A new product created from the form is published by default.

Before you start

  • products.create permission to create, products.update to edit or change the status.
  • At least one shop: each product is linked to one or more shops.

Steps

  1. Open Catalog › Products & Services (/products), then create a new product (/products/create).
  2. Choose the type ("Product Type"): Classic Products, Bundle (products sold as a set), Digital Goods or Services. The type determines which sections appear next (a service, for example, has its durations and its professionals).
  3. Fill in the title, description, photos and price (in the default variant, see "Variants, options and metadata"). The first photo is the one shown in product lists and on online store cards.
  4. In the Status section, the field "What is the status of your product ?", choose Published or Draft. For a service, the label becomes "Set the status of your service".
  5. Under Shops ("List of shops where your product will be available"), check the shops where the product is sold. By default: the active shop if you selected one, otherwise all your shops.
  6. Add Collections, Tags and Metadata if needed. To put several existing products into a collection in one go (same supplier, price range, creation period, batch), see "Tags and collections" (etiquettes-tags).
  7. Click Save.

Once the product is saved and published, a Public Link block appears in the Status section: it is the product's direct link on your website, to copy or share.

Different prices per shop

The same product can cost a different price in each of your shops. In the form, tick "Different prices per shop?":

  • Product with a single variant: the Prices by shop block appears under the price field. Enter a price for each shop that sells the product. An empty field applies the product's price.
  • Product with several variants: a Shop prices button opens, for each variant, the same list of shops.

Only shops that sell the product are listed. Shop prices are saved with the product. To go back to the product's price in a shop, empty its field.

In other words: for a product to appear on the online store, it must be published, and linked to the shop concerned.

Change the status

  • One product: open its record, Status section, change the value, then save.
  • Several products: on the /products list, tick them, then the bulk action Change status.
  • Filter: the list has a State filter (All / Published / Draft) and a Status column.

Edge cases and common mistakes

  • "My product does not appear on my website." Check in order: is the status Published? Is the product linked to the right shop? If it is part of a collection shown online, the collection only shows published products.
  • "I can't find the product at the register." The register only shows published products of the selected shop.
  • Product created from an order. If you type an unknown name in an order and choose "Create a product for this order", the product is created as a draft and linked to the order's shop. Publish it afterwards if you want to sell it online.
  • Imported products. In an Excel import, a product is only published if the Product Published column is 1, published or true; otherwise it arrives as a draft (see "Import products").

FAQ

What is the difference between a published product and a draft? A published product is offered to your customers (website, links, WhatsApp catalog, register). A draft is saved but hidden from customers; you can still add it to an order entered from the dashboard.

Do I need to publish a product for it to appear on the online store? Yes. A draft is not shown to visitors.

Is a published product visible in all my shops? No, only in the shops ticked in its Shops section.
